Seething with the vision of an American experimentalist and the refinement of a European Conservatory, percussionist Brian Archinal is presenting contemporary music (and other oddities) with unparalleled versatility. He is currently based in Basel, Switzerland studying with Christian Dierstein on a Fulbright Scholarship.
Archinal has performed with Ensemble-Phoenix (Basel, Switzerland) red fish blue fish (La Jolla, CA), La Jolla Symphony (La Jolla, CA), the Lexington Philharmonic (Lexington, KY) the Kaohsiung City Symphony (Kaohsiung, Taiwan), SOUND/VISION (Lexington, KY),Arizona Contemporary Music Ensemble (Tempe, AZ), and the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra (Lucerne Switzerland). He has performed at Monday Evening Concerts (Los Angeles), Carlsbad Music Festival (CA), Concours de Genevé (Geneva, Switzerland), Lucerne Festival, Chapman University ‘Day of Percussion’, Northeastern University ‘Fusion Arts Exchange” (Boston, MA), FreeKY Festival (Lexington, KY), two Percussive Arts Society Conventions, and been a Featured Artist at the Music For All Summer Symposium (Bloomington, IL). As a competitor, he finished in the Semi-Finals of the Concours de Geneve (2009), was Runner-Up in the Atlanta Symphony ‘Modern Snare Drum’ Competition (2008), and will compete at the TROMP Competition in Eindhoven, Netherlands in 2010.
Among highlights of respected composers, Archinal has worked closely with Michael Pisaro, Roger Reynolds, Philippe Manoury, Christopher Dench David Lang, Peter Ablinger, Edmund Campion, Nicholas Deyoe, and David Crowell.
He recently released his debut CD entitled Self | Space, with recordings of multi-tracked ensemble works by Edmund Campion, Jordan Munson, Trevor Bača and Peter Ablinger. (www.brianarchinal.bandcamp.com)
Archinal received his BA degree from the University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY) studying with James Campbell, and a MA degree from the University of California at San Diego studying with Steven Schick.
